Holocaust Memorial Day – 27th January 2022

As part of our Lifewise PSHE work, Year 6 explored Holocaust Memorial Day. The staff were amazed at the knowledge the children already had, and they built on this, learning new facts about what happened to people during World War Two, not only to Jewish people but people of other faiths and beliefs. Year 6 approached this learning in a very sensitive and mature way, and as we lit a candle so they could “Be the light in the darkness”, they shared their thoughts :

“I was thinking about all the disabled people that died because of their disability.”

“No-one should be killed because of their religion, skin colour or if they are disabled.”

“War needs to stop.”

“Everyone should be treated equally.”

“Everyone is unique and different.”

“I think it was horrible how they treated people differently because of what they looked like.”

“No man or woman should be judged by their skin colour or religion, beliefs or disbeliefs.”

Thank you Year 6 for helping us to remember millions of people, both in the past and today, and for helping to “Be the light in the darkness.”
