We were very excited to welcome Carolyn Ward, a local published author, to come and talk to Years 5 and 6 about her debut novel, “Bella Bright and the Ghost Game.” She shared with us her journey to becoming a published author, what inspires her to write and the writing process she follows.
She then worked with Year 6 to write a spooky setting description. Our Griffins were truly inspired by her talk and ideas and created some amazing pieces of descriptive writing!
Carolyn also spent some time with our Griffins, answered their questions and signed their books. She sent us a lovely email, following her visit.
Hi Bramford!
I hope that you are all well.
Iâm emailing to say thank you for a wonderful visit to your school on October 24th, the children were amazing! So well-behaved and incredibly engaged.
To Year 5 and 6 â
Thank you so much for listening so brilliantly in my assembly, and for all the wonderful ghostly happenings you told me about (there must be a LOT of haunted homes in Sedgley!)
Remember if you ever find a Goliath Tarantula; get the barbecue going, and cook it properly before you take a nice crunchy bite…
Year 6 â
Your descriptive writing was so good I think Iâm going to use your ideas in my next book!
Particularly loved âOfficerâ Olivia, the ânuclear rainâ, the âmonsters hiding in the trees with heads that flip backwardsâ, and Freddyâs vampire with âred teethâ!
Remember â if you see a sign saying DO NOT GO IN THE WOODS itâs probably better to keep on walking past and certainly not go in the woods where any sort of tree monster could be waiting to play hide and seek…
Well done everyone, and Iâll come to see you again soon.
Carolyn Ward
