What a school of super scientists we have!

Well, the amazing, awesome (and some prehistoric!) scientific activities have continued today!

Reception children have had fun learning about Mary Anning and her fossil hunting. They wanted to be creative chameleons and so made their own fossils using playdough.  The children thoroughly enjoyed looking at real fossils and guessing what they were.

The afternoon continued with our concentrating crocodiles investigating floating and sinking objects, sorting objects such as rocks, leaves and dinosaur bones!

Year 5’s work today was entitled “Wonderful Winds” and as change makers, they learned about wind power as an alternative to using fossil fuels and how the power of wind can be harnessed to generate electricity. They created their own wind turbine from recycled bottles and card to make sails. It was lovely to see their enthusiasm and excitement as they constructed their wind turbines and tested them out.

Year 2 have also been exploring elephants today.  They carried out a changing materials experiment, trying to bend, twist, squash and stretch a variety of everyday objects.  They recorded their findings on a grid like real scientists and then wrote the results of the experiments.  And, what did they find out? Lots of objects are bendable and squashable, but only a few objects can be stretched.
